The Beginner's Guide On How To Get Backlinks

quality content backlinks The Beginners Guide On How To Get BacklinksLearning how to get backlinks is something of a challenge for first time webmasters, but the truth is that you can learn everything you need to know to get started in five hundred words. Don’t believe us? We’ll prove it…

Don’t Linkswap with Just Anybody

If you find a website with hundreds of links and they want to swap links with you, forget it. You’re sharing the strength of that site with hundreds of other links, and putting a link on your site in exchange for four or five hits just isn’t worth it. What you want to do is trade links with maybe ten or twenty popular sites who, themselves, are only sharing with maybe ten or twenty other sites.

Read up on SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and a little SEO know-how is a must for a successful website these days. Back in the early to mid nineties, backlinks were used primarily as a means of navigation around the web, in lieu of any good search engines, but today, backlinks are all about SEO, or keywords, to be specific. If you have anchored text, or linked text, in your web content, make sure that you’re using a hot keyword. Someone looking for a wedding photographer, for example, is going to type “Wedding Photographer” into Google, not “Guy to take pictures while me and the old lady get hitched”.

Try to Swap Links with the Highest Profile Sites You can

We mentioned that you want to save your linkswaps for reputable, high profile sites, right? Well when you’re just starting out, how do you get the dot com celebrities to share some of their visitors with you? That’s up to you. You can provide great content, you can offer a unique product or service, or maybe you can even get lucky and happen to email that webmaster when they’re in a particularly great mood. It never hurts to ask, though, so never hesitate to ask. The worst that can happen is that they might say no.

Spy on the Competition

Check out your competitor’s websites. What sites are linking to them? Okay, now go link to those sites. Yes, you’ll be putting your link right alongside a link to your competitor, but at least you’re in the running.

And Finally: It’s About Who You Link TO…

You don’t always get a link back in return for your backlink, but let’s say you run a catering business. Now, Coca Cola, Oscar Meyer and Sara Lee might not be willing to trade links with you, but there’s no rule on the books saying you can’t link to them. When you link to industry leaders, it puts forth an image of professionalism, and improves your online “trust”. This means: Better web visibility. Remember, you’re just starting out, so it can really help to get a little digital karma flowing.
